Miranda Sings is a fictional character created in 2008 by YouTube personality Colleen Ballinger Evans. Colleen originally created Miranda as a joke to share with her friends, but the character soon gained popularity, now with over 6 million subscribers on Youtube. On June 21, both Miranda and Colleen announced on Instagram that Miranda will be on the newest cover of Variety.
The fictional character of Miranda is described as being a narcissistic and quirky woman, who wears too much red lipstick. In her interview with Variety, Colleen said “The process of getting into the Miranda mode is simply making sure I look as gross as possible. I can’t do Miranda unless I feel disgusting so I make sure I’m not wearing any makeup, and I’m wearing gross clothes, and lots of lipstick and I’m good to go.”
Colleen also said that “Miranda kind of teaches people it’s okay to be weird and have confidence in your weirdness and to love yourself no matter what.”
When asked about Miranda’s upcoming Netflix series Haters Back Off, Colleen said she was nervous about working with so many new people, since she previously made all her YouTube videos herself. However, Colleen described her experience working with a team as “incredible” and hopes to continue doing the Netflix show and adding more characters.
Haters Back Off centers around Miranda’s life with her mother, uncle, and neighbor. There are 8 half-hour episodes that are expected to be released in the upcoming future.
